About

Dr. Lauren Cook is a therapist, consultant, speaker, and author. She travels around the country while also offering virtual and hybrid options to support teams with their retention, morale, and engagement through the lens of mental wellness.

Dr. Lauren is passionate about bringing mental health to people of all ages and identities, particularly in the workplace (including when that’s from home!). Dr. Lauren integrates empirically-supported research and neuroscience to inform her evidence-based teachings.

Dr. Lauren is the founder of Heartship Psychological Services that serves clients residing in California. Specializing in anxiety, Dr. Lauren helps individuals and couples work through generalized anxiety, phobias, social anxiety, OCD, and more. She takes a multiculturally-informed, systems lens that looks at the intersectional identities of a person in the context of their environment. She specifically applies third-wave tenets (CBT, ACT, and DBT) to help teams apply mindfulness, cognitive flexibility, and values-identification for intentional living.

Dr. Lauren Cook began her training at UCLA, where she majored in Psychology and Communication Studies. She then earned her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California. It was during this time that Lauren became trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy and learned how to help families and couples integrate healthy communication strategies while building greater emotional closeness.

Dr. Cook completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University. She is passionate about lessening the stigma associated with mental illness and implements a recovery model and strengths-based approach so that companies can learn how to support those with different needs. Stigma should never get in the way.

Dr. Lauren also created the Name Your Story mental health group training curriculum so that viewers can learn about not only the signs and symptoms of distress, but what they can do about them. This curriculum has been utilized on an individual level as well in groups with several companies and universities and organizations so that thousands of participants can not only foster their own sense of wellbeing but also support their colleagues and classmates as well.

Dr. Lauren is the author of three books. Her latest publication is titled Generation Anxiety: A Millennial and Gen Z Guide for Staying Afloat in Uncertain Times. Name Your Story: How to Talk Openly about Mental Health and The Sunny Side Up: Celebrating Happiness are two additional resources that can be used to further personal and professional growth. With plenty of opportunities for self-reflection, these books are useful tools as readers develop insight into their growth areas.

Dr. Lauren Cook currently lives in Pasadena with her husband, young son, and her Siamese cat, Mochi.
