About

Emma Louden is an astrophysicist, President of Slooh, TEDx speaker, and advocate for practical hope in an anxious world. She bridges worlds that rarely connect: elite research credentials and business leadership, cosmic perspective and strategic action, technical rigor and profound meaning.

Emma earned her Ph.D. in astrophysics from Yale University, where she published 18 peer-reviewed papers on exoplanet dynamics and planetary systems. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University and has been recognized as a Brooke Owens Fellow, Quad Fellow, and recipient of dual Chambliss Astronomy Achievement Awards from the American Astronomical Society. Her policy work includes serving as Deputy Chair of NASA's Habitable Worlds Observatory Working Group and developing the Satellite Impact Risk Index (SIRI) to help bridge competing stakeholders in the space industry.

As President of Slooh, Emma leads a company built on the belief that the universe belongs to everyone. She has secured $5 million in funding and transformed Slooh's global network of remotely operated telescopes into an education platform serving students worldwide. Under her leadership, Slooh partners with schools, universities, and organizations to democratize access to professional-grade astronomy.

Emma is also the author of the children's book Mia and the Martians and writes the Substack newsletter "Observing Hope," where she explores what practical hope looks like for a generation navigating climate anxiety, economic uncertainty, and the search for meaningful work. Her forthcoming book of the same name offers a framework for translating cosmic perspective into daily practice and strategic action.

Raised in Park City, Utah between what she calls "a pastor's heart and a professor's mind," Emma brings warmth and authenticity to technical topics. Whether speaking to students charting their futures, professionals navigating career transitions, or executives building mission-driven organizations, she delivers frameworks audiences use long after leaving the room. She's in love with the night sky, the power of stories, and helping others see the beauty and possibilities within themselves and the universe.
