The CA program is a volunteered group of players who run events for their local communities in Pokemon GO. In this, they end up both managing huge, diverse groups of people while running small live events. They feel a lot of pressure to do more from their communities, which results in high burn-out. I really want to help manage this mindset so they take breaks and know how best to balance it so they're still having fun.
- Big goal for us is tools that they can use, inspire, and educate. We're looking for high energy and interactive.
- This would be a one-hour virtual session on Zoom, taking place Dec 20/21. We'd love a recording after. / Very open to moderated conversation format!
- Never had an outside speaker for this group before.
- This is part of a larger digital summit for the group.
- The group itself totals around 2000, but don't expect all of them to attend.
Since this is a global program, they have a few specific slots on Saturday and Sunday that we're using to maximize timezones; any of these slots would be available to you:
12/20: 3PM or 6PM ET
12/21: 8:30AM or 3PM ET
Budget: $2,000

In many community-focused roles, there’s an unspoken idea that the more you take on and the more exhausted you are—the more committed or valuable you seem. That “hero culture” often grows out of implicit policies and expectations, even when no one says it out loud. Over time, it can turn volunteering or community leadership into something that feels heavy instead of energizing.
This session looks at burnout from the ground up by examining the explicit and implicit policies that shape our habits at the organizational, team, and individual level. We’ll explore how certain norms like constantly being available, saying yes to everything, or stepping in as the “fixer” can quietly reinforce exhaustion as a kind of status symbol.
Participants will leave with practical ways to reset expectations, create healthier rhythms, and shift away from hero culture toward sustainable, enjoyable leadership. We’ll talk through simple tools and mindset shifts that help maintain energy and protect the fun that drew you to this work in the first place.
